Insulated Shipper

An insulated shipper is insulating packaging that reduces heat transfer between its contents and the surroundings. It can therefore delay warming or cooling. Materials such as EPS, EPP or paper insulation, and components such as vacuum insulation panels, enable different designs.

Does an insulated shipper cool by itself?

Insulation does not generate cold. Conditioned cooling elements or dry ice are often added for targeted temperature control. Only together with the load, arrangement and preparation do they form a packout whose protective performance can be tested.

Which properties describe the shipper?

  • Internal space and geometry: as well as the product, there must be room for coolant, inner packaging and required separation distances.
  • Insulation construction and closure: wall thickness, joints and the fit of the lid affect heat transfer.
  • Mechanical suitability: the packaging must withstand the intended transport and planned number of uses.

An empty insulated shipper therefore has no universally applicable cooling duration. A reliable duration always relates to a defined system configuration and its test conditions.
